SAN ANTONIO – On Saturday, September 12, the Tobin Center for The Performing Arts kicked off their all-new Tobin EDGE Series. The Tobin EDGE series is their enigmatic series focusing on unusual and innovative off-broadway hits. The EDGE series is an affordable take on some incredible performances delivered right here in San Antonio.
To start off the series, the Tobin Center brought Miles Allen and his One Man Breaking Bad – The Unauthorised Parody. The performance features 60 episodes in 60 minutes and is a narrative of the entire five season show, with one man (Allen) performing every major character on the show from Heisenberg to the breakfast loving, Walt Jr. We had the pleasure of sitting down and speaking with Miles about his fun and endearing take on the popular television series.
Is it difficult for you to deliver dialogue between different characters?
Allen: Not really, because its kind of funny, i’ve been doing this since I was young. When I was like 13, I started doing impressions and I just started making up conversations between characters, it was a fun hobby that my friends found amusing.
How did you come up with the idea for the performance including 60 episodes in 60 minutes?
Allen: After my YouTube video went viral, a producer from Australia contacted me who saw the video and was like mate we need to get you out here for Melbourne. Does that sound good? Um, yeah, let me check my schedule. [Laughter].
What has been the most defining moment on tour of One Man Breaking Bad so far?
Allen: Doing the performance in Albuquerque, NM. Since the show was filmed there. They took over the town while filming for five years. It was a dream come true. I got a standing ovation at the end, it was the moment I had been waiting for. I had been doing the show overseas, so this is my first U.S tour and doing it there was amazing because it was my second show here. I did the little show tour in the city where they shot the show, I visited Walter White’s house and Jesse’s pad. It was pretty cool.
